Red light on CPU indicates a problem with the processor.
Hello looking for help on a potential problem with my i7 9700k. Red light on motherboard for CPU, as well as cpu running hot. Temps are around 100C (212F) with just discord and maybe twitch running off of chrome. Tried updating BIOS on 5/7/2020 and swapping my H100i Pro plug from AIO cooler to CPU fan with no change. Fans on the Radiator are CORSAIR - HD Series 120mm. Any help is appreciated, thanks
Did you verify the pump status in the BIOS or with other programs? Ensure the heatsink is properly positioned. Reapplied thermal paste. Consider using a different cooler.
The only other cooler I own is a stock Intel model that came with a 6700. I haven’t altered the pre-applied thermal paste and made sure it’s properly seated. I hope I followed the instructions and watched the YouTube video. I’ll switch the paste now—I have a spare stick just in case, thanks!
I'd verify the cooler pump is operating first. It's completely possible it isn't. If you're uncertain, you can look it up in the BIOS or use most fan software—RPM should be 4000 or higher. Also, when reapplying thermal paste, make sure you take off the sticker from the heatsink. Sounds like a simple oversight, but I've seen others do it, not that I've experienced it myself...
You probably shouldn't need to do anything special—maybe you were thinking about the H60. I should check some details. After looking it up, your H100i seems to be in quiet mode. Switching it to extreme mode might help with the temperatures. Also, have you double-checked the readings using another program?
After reviewing the unboxing videos and product images, I’m convinced the pump sensor plug might be missing a wire—it seems to have only one instead of the expected two.
