The friend received an old laptop with BitLocker enabled. No one knows the recovery key or setup method. Since there are no critical files, they attempted to install a new Windows using the installation media tool, but it couldn’t locate the drive. Now they need alternative ways to recover or restore the system.

Looking at the specifications, which desktop model are we talking about? It might require certain software to set up properly.

I don’t have the system details since I can’t access the computer. All files seem unimportant, so our goal is to erase the storage. However, the BitLocker protection prevents the Windows Media installation tool from seeing or connecting to the drive.

No sticker appears on the laptop, so there is no model or manufacturer visible.

BIOS might offer a feature to securely wipe data from storage, allowing you to attempt it.

This directs you to a support portal: HP Laptop PC 15s-fq2000 (2D119AV) Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Customer Support. Download the driver for "Driver-Store" - "Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver". Follow the manual download link and save the file "sp139242.exe" on your computer. Use a program like 7-Zip to unpack the executable. Paste the extracted files into your Windows installation media or a USB drive formatted with FAT32. When prompted for additional drivers during setup, choose the folder "sp139242\dchu_VMD". You should see "Intel RST VMD Controller 9A0B" listed. After completion, the guide from Dell Intel processors 11 and 12 generation suggests using HP drivers instead of Windows files while installing Windows 10 or 11.

On certain laptops, you can modify the BIOS to enable VMD during startup, eliminating the need for a driver to identify the device during Windows setup.

The installation tool isn’t recognizing the drive after reformatting. Check if the BitLocker is still active or if the drive is properly unlocked before trying again.
