Hi guys, my younger brother has forgotten the password for his little HP desktop and isn't able to log into the computer anymore. He has racked his brain trying to remember the password but is coming up blank. I then tried to enter safe mode so that I could change the password with the administrator account but there wasn't one. He also doesn't have a password reset disk. I'm completely out of ideas and have no idea what to do. Any suggestions? Thanks

No, you don't need to reinstall Windows. Simply format and reinstall it as needed.

Checked online resources and found several alternatives. You can use the PC support page for Windows 7 at the provided link, or try the password reset method on the Windows 7 installation DVD. This approach seems effective as it relies mainly on the installation media.

Thanks for the feedback. I’ve discovered a working solution that doesn’t require reformatting Windows. Here’s the video link for anyone who wants to check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZQHK7EU3BA

I maintain a backup of the Trinity Rescue Kit on a small flash drive in case any of my friends encounter an issue. It’s a very compact drive, and I store it in my wallet. It’s always handy when needed B)

I understand your perspective and have attempted a similar solution. Now I’d like to suggest another method for resetting a Windows password when you forgot it. I’ve lost my Windows 7 password on an HP laptop, had no backup, and used the "Windows Password Recovery Tool 3.0." It worked well for me, allowing me to regain access in just three steps: 1. Download the tool from the provided link, 2. Install it, and 3. Use it to reset your Windows password. It’s quite straightforward.

I usually carry Hiren's Boot Disk with me wherever I go, just in case. It includes NTPass remover, which typically deletes the password for any user account in most situations. It also comes with Konboot and a few other useful tools.
