Recover information lost due to improper formatting on a hard drive
Hi. I have a M.2 Sata with Windows 10 and a 1 TB HDD for storage.
I swapped the M.2 Sata with an NVMe drive.
In the Windows 10 installer section (USB) where you pick the partition for the operating system, both the NVMe and the HDD were listed.
By accident, I formatted the HDD (which had a lot of data).
I then went back to the M.2 Sata, which still has Windows installed, and the HDD appeared without any partition in the Windows Disk Administrator or Mini Tool Partition Wizard.
Since the HDD is in good condition, I think I can recover the files using software.
Do you have any recommendations for software to help with this? Or do you think I lost everything?
After trying Stellar Data Recovery and Disk Drill, I plan to use Hiren's Boot.
The Mini Tool Data Recovery won’t work because it claims the HDD is protected by BitLocker.
Interesting fact: if I search for "BitLocker" in Control Panel or Configuration or Start, nothing shows up—odd.
Thanks in advance.
I've previously used Recuva for data recovery and had a positive experience. Although some files remained corrupted, most of them were still recoverable. This serves as a strong motivation to maintain regular backups of essential information. Over time, both larger HDDs and SSDs have become more affordable.

There were still some corrupted files, but most of the data remained intact.
A solid reason to ensure backups of all important information.
