Doesn't make a difference with the actual video quality, if your monitor supports 1080p, then you can record 1080p and so on. The connection from your GPU to your monitor has nothing to do with it. Im using DVI on my monitor and here is my video quality with fraps:

For a Nvidia GTX 600 or better, using Nvidia Shadowplay is recommended as it causes less strain compared to Fraps.
