Recorded a 5950x performance at 1.6ghz.
I own a Ryujin cooler equipped with an LCD display, and last night I briefly checked it showing a frequency of 1.6ghz. Verified via HWin, and that's correct. Some cores even reached 2.0. This was running on a Dark Hero motherboard, and everything is still factory-set. Temperatures were normal, voltage levels were fine. After powering down the system, it gradually returned to the standard 3.6 and everything resumed normally. However, I’m curious about what might have triggered this. Could the water pump in the AIO have stopped working briefly, causing the CPU to throttle? At that time, I was experimenting with settings in Armour Crate while a background game was running. It seems I was adjusting the cooler options and noticed the change. While temperatures were low, they matched what the CPU typically runs at when idle at 3.6. I believe lower temps are normal at this frequency. Everything appears fine now, but I plan to write a post about it to see if it’s something I should monitor moving forward. Edit: I also switched power settings from Balanced to High Performance, only to find out it’s back to Balanced—maybe the save file failed or there’s an issue.
You were handling some demanding operations at that moment. If you weren’t working on heavy tasks, it was typical for the CPU to lower its clock speed to save energy.
While exploring Armoury Crate, I had a few YouTube windows open and Kerbal Space Program playing in the background. It was a demanding game, especially since it uses a lot of CPU. I guess running it in the background usually slows things down for that app. This is unusual because it’s been my first month on this PC. Right now, with just the tabs active, I’m maintaining around 3.6ghz.
