Hello everyone,
I’m planning to proceed with this build:
CPU: Intel i7-8700K overclocked to 4.8GHz
Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix Z370-F Gaming ATX LGA1151
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 8GB Superclocked Gaming ACX 3.0 Video Card
RAM: Corsair-Vengeance RGB Pro 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200
SSD: Kingston-UV500 480GB 2.5'' SSD
HD: Seagate-Barracuda 2TB 3.5'' 7200RPM Internal
Case: Focus G Window Midi-Tower Case - Black

I’m mainly concerned about maintaining optimal temperatures. I’ll swap the front two 120mm fans for larger 140mm models, add two 140mm fans at the top, one 120mm fan in the rear, and another 120mm fan at the bottom. For cooling my CPU, I need a solution that fits within a height limit of 165mm. Could you suggest something suitable?

Lukemurtagh1995 explains how to link fans effectively. Some fans use 3-pin connectors, others Molex, and some have both. Motherboard fans support speed control via motherboard management. Splitters can help connect multiple fans to a single header. Adjustments are straightforward. Starting simple is recommended. More fans mean louder operation. With two 140mm front intakes and one 120mm exhaust, an air cooler works well for overclocked 8700K and graphics cards. An air cooler might be necessary depending on your budget and desired temperature control.

The Noctua NH-D15 would pair well with these options. Its height reaches 165mm, which is very close to the maximum. The Bequiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 stands at 160mm.

The Noctua NH-D15 would make a suitable match. Its height is 165mm, which is just at the maximum. The Bequiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 also works well at 160mm. Thanks for your prompt response. You noted the Noctua NH-D15 is near the 165mm limit, but it shouldn't cause any problems.

Hello everyone,
I’m considering this build and have a few questions:

Case: Focus G Window Midi-Tower Case - Black

I’m mainly concerned about keeping everything cool. I plan to swap the front two 120mm fans for 140mm ones, add two 140mm fans at the top, one 120mm fan in the rear, and another 120mm fan at the bottom.
What cooler would be best for cooling my CPU? I have a height restriction of 165mm.
Also, are you against using an AIO liquid cooler?

I am considering this build carefully:
CPU: Intel i7-8700K overclocled to 4.8GHz
Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix Z370-F Gaming ATX LGA1151
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 8GB Superclocked Gaming ACX 3.0 Video Card
RAM: Corsair-Vengeance RGB Pro 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200
SSD: Kingston-UV500 480GB 2.5'' SSD
HD: Seagate-Barracuda 2TB 3.5'' 7200RPM Internal HD
Case: Focus G Window Midi-Tower Case - Black
I’m mainly concerned about maintaining proper cooling. I plan to swap the front two 120mm fans for larger 140mm models, add two 140mm fans at the top, one 120mm fan in the rear, and another 120mm fan at the bottom. Pros: Eliminates height restrictions that air coolers come with, usually takes longer for heat to saturate the radiator due to effective cooling by liquid, can be mounted to top, rear, or front of case depending on size of radiator.
Cons: Can be more expensive, possibility of leaks (low risk, but still a risk nonetheless), not all cases support mounting points.

I understand. If you chose the more affordable Noctua NH-D15 model, I’m wondering if pairing it with four 140mm fans and two 120mm fans would be sufficient to maintain a comfortable temperature in your Fractal Design Focus G case.

I understand. If you chose the more affordable Noctua NH-D15 fan, I believe using four 140mm fans together with two 120mm ones should keep things cool enough for your Fractal Design Focus G case. Don’t worry, it should work fine. You can upgrade later to a liquid cooler if needed. The 8700k processor is known for being very efficient, so you shouldn’t overheat much.
