Do you have any suggestions for free software that can help burn files onto a DVD-R?

I have a Lenovo Ideapad 100 running Windows 10 with an internal disc drive that's no longer functional. I've purchased an Origbelie external disc drive and managed to create a CD-R using Windows Media, but when trying to burn to a DVD-R it reports it's not possible. I'm looking for suggestions on free online software tools that might help. Thanks.

ImgBurn is a simple application for burning CD, DVD, HD DVD, and Blu-ray media. It’s essential for any toolkit and completely free to use! Visit www.imgburn.com for more details.

I'll attempt that. I converted several files into MPEGs using the AVC converter, which are small enough to fit on a 4.7GB DVD-R. I did this before on the built-in disc drive of my laptop when it was functioning properly, but now it's not working. I need a new platform to upload the files so I can burn them. I think I can do this with the AVC software, though it's mainly a converter and I've noticed the quality of the burn isn't very good. I'll follow your advice. Thanks.

Maybe the media center is attempting to convert them into a standard DVD format, which wouldn't work.

This clarifies it. I plan to test some of the ideas later and I'm hoping it will function now.

I just got this from the official site. I added two files to be burned onto a 4.7GB dvd-r, but it said I’d exceeded the capacity and the burn might fail. The files are 1.33GB and 1.49GB, which should fit. It says the disc duration is 2 hours and 26 minutes, but when I burned a disc on the laptop’s built-in burner last year, it was based on the file size, and I actually managed to fit 4 hours on the dvd-r. I think I might be doing something wrong here! I downloaded the express burn by NCH software and used the video DVD option. Any idea why these two files won’t fit? Thanks.

Same problem as before...
Avoid burning as a DVD, opt for burning as files. (on DVD)
Using DVD software assumes you need DVD player compatibility video, but with files, you have full freedom to format them however you like.
