Recommendation for using scroll wheel with a good mouse.
Recommendation for using scroll wheel with a good mouse.
Hi everyone, how are you?
I’m looking for a mouse recommendation. The main thing I need is one that has a scroll wheel that doesn’t cause problems or lasts a long time.
I’ve been tired of buying traditional mice with mechanical scrolling. They often require maintenance—like opening them up, cleaning, adding tape, tightening parts, and welding the encoder—just to keep working properly. That’s not ideal.
What I really want is something that avoids this mechanical approach. Over the past few years, I’ve tried several brands, both well-known and others. What stands out is that after 6 months to a year of use, I still have to clean it up or fix it. The scrolling either stops working or becomes unreliable.
This isn’t a flaw in the mouse itself, but in the technology—it’s mechanical, which means friction and dirt can build up, eventually causing failure.
So, I’m hoping to find a model that’s more durable, maybe with a cable and extra thumb buttons for comfort. That would be perfect.
Thanks!
I've tested around 15 different mice over the past decade, including purchasing and reviewing them. The top two I've found are the Logitech G600 and the Corsair Vengeance M95. Both offer great scrolling performance, and the Logitech model also supports right/left tilt, which is useful if you play games on your computer. I've used the Logitech G600 as my main desktop mouse for about five years now, and it remains in excellent shape. Over the past two years, while working from home, I've used this system frequently before, so it has been used a lot. The Corsair Vengeance M95 has been my portable choice, staying with my laptops for around ten years, and it's also still in great condition. Where are you using this setup, and what causes the dirt on your hands? Are you using it outdoors or in a business environment?
What are your pricing options?
I've experienced success with the Logitech G Pro X Superlight and Corsair M65, which I've used as mice for a long time. The M65 was my primary choice for many years before switching to the Logitech G Pro X Superlight. Since then, I've tried various other models such as the Glorious Model O, Finalmouse Starlight Pro - TenX, and Pulsar X2, using them occasionally. The Finalmouse remains my main daily mouse, though all these alternatives have been excellent!
Hi everyone! Thanks for the suggestion, some of those mice I hadn't tried before. Logitech G600 and Corsair Vengeance M95 look nice, but they have way too many buttons on the side, I'm sure I'll mess them up. The Corsair M65 was almost my choice, and some reviews caught my eye, but I ended up going with the Logitech G502 X. It's a new model with an optical scroll I'm after and it features hybrid clicking buttons combining optical and mechanical tech. I don't know how they'll hold up over time, but I'm open to trying them. It wasn't too expensive—just $75 on Amazon for a brand-new version with all those features, could be a great deal. Thanks again!
PS: "Dirt" might've been a strong word, actually. Dust would be better. I have a serious dust problem, live in the city, not the countryside. Crazy stuff.
