You're dealing with a tricky situation involving your Z800 workstation. It seems the power supply unit failed unexpectedly, causing random shutdowns and overheating. You're considering a replacement that fits your current setup—Power Mac G5 case with an ATX PSU—and want something reliable for gaming. You're open to older models with DDR3 ECC support, even if they also have non-ECC memory. Since you're not focused on peak performance and don’t want to spend heavily, look for a budget-friendly build that’s sturdy and well-built. Check for good value, solid components, and avoid overly expensive parts that might be prone to failure.

Check compatibility first. Before purchasing second-hand items, confirm they function properly.

I purchased a Ryzen 2600 for around 90 euros, which feels like a solid deal. However, you'll need a budget-friendly motherboard and DDR4 RAM will likely cost more. Still, it seems to be the best value available right now. It depends on your power needs—my experience is using a second-generation i5 from an old office PC with an 1050Ti, which performed perfectly. If you're aiming for maximum savings, consider used office computers.

I located an affordable HP Z400 that fits your current RAM and one of your X5570 chips. The compatibility is close enough for a simple swap—just replace the drives and you’ll have a nearly identical machine with fewer CPU sockets.
