Hey there, I usually don’t share updates, but I’m facing a bit of a situation... Last year I assembled a PC for my daughter and swapped out the PSU, everything worked until now. She told me the USB ports aren’t responding—only the mouse connects properly in other systems. The PSU was just replaced with a new part, but I can’t even access the BIOS. If I delete the M.2 drive and reformat it, will that fix the issue before Windows starts? Here’s what I have: i5 11400f, 16GB DDR4 3200MHz, B560M-A Pro, 1050Ti. Thanks, KoaL!

Initial idea is that the USB and power supply unit might have failed together due to a similar cause. It seems unlikely something illegal was inserted into the USB port, though that’s hard to confirm. Were you checking all ports? The PSU definitely failed—what happened?

I believe all USB ports failed two weeks after the PSU stopped working. The exact cause isn’t clear, but I think it might have been a power surge at the time of failure. It seems they likely died together, even though no specific reason was given. Before the PC wouldn’t power on properly, nothing else seemed to be affected. I took out and reconnected the USB cables to the motherboard just in case they were loose, but there were no signs pointing to that being the issue.

power surges can quickly harm parts, causing them to fail shortly after the event. USB controller chips are among those vulnerable to surges. I'm sure a repair shop could replace the chip, but a fresh board might be more cost-effective.
