Recent W10 update causes slow loading on the settings page.
I'm facing a strange problem with the PCs I'm assembling. The setup screen in a fresh Windows 10 install often takes a long time—about 30 seconds—to load, then stays blue for a while. This also occurs when using Edge after clicking a link. Chrome works fine now, but the delay remains. After installing Chrome, the issue persists. PC's I'm building: i7-7700, 16GB, Gigabyte GA-H110M-S2H, Samsung EVO 850 256GB SSD. What I did: Assembled the PC, used a USB created with Mediatool, booted it, and installed Windows 10 Pro. I haven't pressed any keys yet, as I plan to do that once everything is up. Booted into Windows 10 and ran updates several times until it said no updates. I checked: Device Manager shows all drivers present, but no devices are listed with warnings. Task Manager displays no high usage while the settings screen remains blue. Windows Version/Build: 1709/16299.192 It's not consistent but happens enough to be bothersome.
Have you checked if the BIOS supports updating and installing Windows in UEFI, and are there options similar to WHQL for Windows 10?
A BIOS update was applied to one machine while another remained without it, causing similar unusual delays. Windows is set to UEFI mode, confirmed via systeminfo. WHQL refers to a query used by Windows to gather detailed hardware information; it appears you're seeing results from its own diagnostics. Since no other drivers were installed, the OS handled everything independently.
It's a feature available on Gigabyte's motherboards that enables secure boot. This guide might assist you: https://www.eightforums.com/installation...post443818
That didn't change much. After switching Chrome to the browser and restarting, the settings page loaded fine. Edge, though, kept freezing for about 30 seconds after clicking a link sometimes. It seems like there might be an issue between them. Still no clear answer yet.
