My internet connection on my device has been unstable lately, often cutting out for a brief moment every few minutes. It doesn’t usually affect normal use, but it becomes bothersome during Discord calls or online games. This issue started after I installed the microcode update from Intel’s BIOS release. I’m running an i7 13700K with an MSI Z790 Carbon Wi-Fi card, and my system is less than a month old. I suspect the problem isn’t with the hardware but with the BIOS settings. I’m considering lowering the voltage to protect the CPU, though I have no idea what values to use. Recently, after downgrading the BIOS again, the problem persisted. I’ve updated drivers, fixed the Wi-Fi firmware, restarted the router, but nothing seems to work. What should I do next?
The actual microcode update remains pending. Intel plans to share details around mid-August. The overvolting problem currently impacts only i9 chips, so your i7 should be unaffected. WiFi will also stay untouched. This issue seems linked to another factor. Make sure you’ve visited the motherboard driver section to look for a WiFi-specific update. If needed, download and install it—even if you already have the same version. It may help reinstall or fix the WiFi driver. For Intel WiFi chips, you can also use the Intel Driver and Support assistant.
Some believe specific 13th and 14th families share the same die as the 12th generation but remain untouched because they employ different microcode. @Tetras has discussed this topic in detail.
