Hey everyone, I recently purchased some PC components and am setting up my first build. I’m wondering if it’s necessary to update the BIOS on my motherboard before installing things like Q-Flash. I have a B550M-DS3H AC motherboard with a Ryzen 5 5600 CPU.

Hello, please note the BIOS must be activated with F10 or newer for your Ryzen 5000 series to function properly on your motherboard. It might come pre-installed with that BIOS or a later version based on the revision. Look for the "Ryzen 5000 ready" label on the motherboard packaging or in the accompanying picture.

Thanks for your question. Yes, the box indicates AMD Ryzen 5000 Desktop Ready means you’re all set to proceed. Just check the BIOS version to confirm compatibility. No need for updates unless you’re unsure—just follow the instructions in the manual. I’m glad to help with your PC setup!

I also check their site and the most recent motherboard bios for me is F18a, yet the CPU support bios show Ryzen 5 5600 at F14.

It’s confirmed. For physical identification, check the sticker on the motherboard’s serial number on both the packaging and the board itself—typically near the CPU or 24-pin power connector.

I looked at my motherboard and noticed my revision is 1.4. After reviewing the CPU support list again, it shows a different BIOS version—specifically, the first one. This means the F14 chipset works with revisions 1 through 1.3, but your model uses revision 1.4. Your motherboard supports version FB.
