Hey everyone, I'm trying to figure this out. I just assembled my PC last week. It includes an Intel i9 14900k, ASUS ROG Strix Z790-E with gaming features, a 4x 16GB G.Skill Trident 6400Mhz SSD, a 2TB WD Black, a 1TB Samsung 980 Pro, an ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 4070 TI Corsair RM850x, a PSU, and several Phantek D30-120 power supplies. I'm using a 1TB SSD with Windows installed, and everything seems to work fine except for some crashes.

I updated the BIOS/UEFI, drivers, and system settings. I transferred my old 500GB SSD and a 4TB HDD from my previous build, but the Windows install was on the new SSD. The crashes only happen when running certain apps like Fortnite, MW3, Lethal Company, or BF 2042, and even Premier Pro. Windows itself doesn’t seem to be the issue.

My GPU has a 3-way PCI-e to 12VHPWR adapter, but I only have two PCI-e cables connected to the PSU, and the third one is shared. Could this be causing power shortages? Any advice would be really helpful.

Ensure your PCIe speed in the BIOS is set to "gen 4" or "gen 3," not "auto" for the graphics card. This adjustment helps resolve dxgi issues across many hardware setups. I’m not certain about the specific crashes, but this seems like a likely starting point.

If that doesn’t work, disable freesync/g-sync on your monitor, as some systems may misconfigure this feature, leading to crashes or black screens. A basic toggle usually fixes the problem.

Updated a game session exceeding 30 minutes. From the original post to now there were no crashes. Suddenly appeared BSOD. First occurrence. No monitors support FreeSync/G-Sync XMP, running at 6400Mhz. Now lowering to 6000Mhz. Testing PCIe speed settings for Gen4 or Gen3. Checking if reducing DRAM resolves the issue. ***Changes made*** November 26, 2023 by ChickenGoup updates

DDR refers to Double Data Rate, meaning its speed can be interpreted as either 3000 or 6000.

Spent the whole day running smoothly without any issues. Ran a GPU benchmark on 3DMark, played Fortnite and COD for a few hours, then edited a short video. No crashes or BSODs occurred. It looks like enabling PCIe Gen4 helped. I’ll keep checking this week, but it’s been great so far. Thanks everyone!

After six months, the build is really taking off and I'm enjoying it a lot. Your support earlier made a big difference, and I truly appreciate it. It sounds like the upgrade from my previous build is coming to an end, which is always exciting, but overall the setup has performed perfectly!
