Recent memory upgrades leading to system failures.
I recently replaced the RAM in my PC with a Samsung 1x 8GB 2666v DDR4 SODIMM and a Corsair Vengeance 2x 16GB 2666v DDR4 SODIMM. The machine started showing blue screens. I double-checked the motherboard specifications for MSI MS-B9181 and confirmed it supports up to 32GB. After removing the CMOS battery, the problem persisted. Please let me know if you can help. Thanks, Rich.
Is there space for 32GB on your main storage? Have you installed a BIOS update? (Make sure to use the original disc if updating.)
Have you verified the QVL for your motherboard? It might support that memory capacity, but also requires a matching brand or specific RAM version. I recommend checking the Qualified Vendors List for your board and confirming its presence. If it’s missing, compatibility is unlikely and could cause problems. You should return the unit and obtain a compatible RAM if updating your BIOS doesn’t resolve the issue. Make sure the BIOS recognizes the installed RAM; if it appears in the list but isn’t visible during boot, consider updating the BIOS to the latest version. If that doesn’t help, try resetting the BIOS settings to defaults and see if it boots. Should the battery be removed, a reset should have occurred—re-flash or update the BIOS and attempt a boot again. If all else fails, increasing the RAM to 32GB with only two sticks might be necessary, or lowering the speed to 2133 in the BIOS to match your CPU capabilities.
