Recent installation, fans activate upon powering up the PSU
Hey there, I'm looking for some tips. I just assembled my first PC and connected the case and fans using SATA power connectors. I plugged them into the PSU and hooked up as many headers as I could to the motherboard. When I power on the PSU but not the PC, the fans start spinning and some RGB lights in the case come on. Did I do something wrong? My case is a Phantecks Enthoo Elite Mobo with a Gigabyte x790 UD AC cooler and a Deepcool LS720.
When using 3 or 4 pin connectors for MOBO, you don’t need to connect them via any other method. Take out the existing SATA connections.
I followed your instructions, but the fans aren’t turning anymore. I verified the connections on the motherboard and confirmed they’re secure (photos included). The cable for CPU_FAN is linked to the radiator fans on the AIO, CPU_OPT connects to the AIO pump, and SYS_FAN2A is attached to the case fans.
The cable labeled “to motherboard cpu_fan” is linked to the sysfan header, but the fan header only provides RPM sensing and not power. The device connected should have its own power source. This configuration typically directs the fan control box to manage case fans and power, using the fan header for speed regulation across all connected fans. It seems the wiring isn’t correct.
You've installed your wiring wrong. The AIO pump needs an AIO PUMP header, which could be another method if your motherboard lacks one. 'To motherboard cpu_fan' actually connects to the CPU fan, not the system fan 2. Your chassis fans link to "system fan x headers," while the CPU fan goes to the CPU FAN HEADER. If you have an AIO, check its manual for proper wiring to the motherboard.
