Recent installation, existing SSD, firmware issues detected
Hello! I put together my new system yesterday. The issue was with the BIOS settings—I switched from UEFI to CSM and it resolved the problem. Now I’m back to not having Wi-Fi and want to go back to UEFI. Some advice suggested changing the boot partition from MBR to GPT, while others mentioned reinstalling Windows. The challenge is I don’t have the activation code. What should I do? Thanks!
You prefer UEFI because it works better, the CSM is fine, and the Wi-Fi problem is related to a driver. Which Wi-Fi card do you have?
You mean what you're talking about by not having WI-FI? Are you asking about the built-in Wi-Fi on your motherboard, an external adapter, or something else? If it's the motherboard, look up the driver instructions on the manufacturer's site. For a USB dongle, find the installer on the brand's website. Another option is to connect an Ethernet cable and let Windows recognize the hardware automatically.
I've seen many opinions that UEFI is superior. Even the person who advised switching to CSM mentioned it was meant to be a temporary step before returning to UEFI. Your motherboard is an MSI Pro Z790-P with Wi-Fi DDR4.
CSM refers to Compatibility Support Module. It enables UEFI to boot from a disk originally configured on an older BIOS setup. You may choose to keep it active or follow the guidance closely if you wish. I suggest creating a backup of your vital information on a different storage device before moving forward. I discovered the MBR to GPT conversion details here: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/wind...tion-from/. However, proceed with caution as incorrect steps might damage your installation or erase data. In my view: if you prefer avoiding trouble, skip it and reinstall Windows on a fresh drive or migrate your setup. There are methods to retrieve your product key, though you’ll need to investigate further. If you haven’t located your drivers yet: https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/PRO-Z790...ort#driver. Choose your operating system, then navigate to LAN Drivers and select Wi-Fi. You can also add Bluetooth drivers as needed.
