I changed my BIOS from 8.14 to 8.19 after adding the 16 GB RAM at 1600MHz. The speed depends on the CPU—if it's a second-gen Sandy Bridge, the memory runs at 1333MHz, while with an i3-3rd gen CPU it operates at 1600 MHz. I think I updated the BIOS after installing the new RAM.
I own an I7-3770 and don't have the exact module details. I'll need to check them. Keep in mind, memory speeds are limited by the CPU. Gen 2 Sandy Bridge supports 1333 MHz, while the 3rd gen Ivybridge offers 1600 MHz. Avoid XMP modules as they won't work at that speed. The PC12800U will handle 1600 MHz, but skip the 10600U modules.
