I recently changed from team blue to red following suggestions from friends while setting up my latest gaming build. I purchased a 3900x at the time of the new Ryzen 5 release, after reviewing reviews and affordable new CPUs. The chip functioned adequately for a few months, but as games updated and newer titles came out, maintaining a steady 60 FPS became difficult. Initially, I assumed the GPU was the issue, so I upgraded to a 3070, though I still face problems. I can’t play Warzone or Mw2 anymore, and games like SMITE (conquest) are no longer accessible. I tried overclocking my CPU, but the AMD software caused damage to my M.2 slot during testing. I’m here mainly to discuss any issues others might have with the 3900x and to explore alternatives beyond just upgrading the processor.
I own a 3900x RTX 3070 with 32 GB of RAM, an 850-watt power supply, and plenty of cooling fans to maintain optimal temperatures. I also perform maintenance by cleaning it every few months.
What video quality are you using? 1080p. The only CPU that makes sense to upgrade on the AM4 board is the 5800X3D.
You're likely to hit CPU limits with Zen 2 cores. Running at 1440p helps. The screenshot comes from GN's video 1. If Smite behaves like a competitive game such as CSGO, performance should remain similar across multiple cores. Even with a RTX 3090Ti, expect comparable FPS scaling to a RTX 3070.
