I struggled to understand what was possible or not when moving Windows 10. Forums and even Microsoft support gave misleading advice. Now I’ve completed the process and can confirm these points: After upgrading from Windows 7 retail to Windows 10, you cannot reinstall Windows 10 on a new machine using your old Windows 7 key. You must first wipe the old drive since the license is single-use per machine, then upgrade via the official download tool at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software...ndows10ISO.
