I was adjusting a game and opened a "readme" using Notepad. It looked like a jumble of symbols, which made me think I’d opened the wrong file. Now two programs on my desktop are using Notepad’s icon (Evernote and Macrium Reflect). I found it strange but didn’t think it was a major issue. Could anyone have done this before or know how to fix it?

You began by launching it using Notepad, then switched the file type to the appropriate program. Clicked right on the desired file and chose "Open With" from the menu.

I understand you're unsure about which program opened a file, as the icons seem mismatched. Let me help clarify.

Sure, I can revert the changes. Let me know if you'd like me to go back to the original version.

To revert the changes, simply right-click the desktop shortcut, choose properties, select "change icon," and then go to the .exe file for the program. It will let you pick the original icon.

I don’t recognize the icon. It looks like it’s greyed out.

Have you attempted to rebuild the shortcut?

Sure, that resolved the issue, but it only functioned when I navigated through libraries directly. It was quite odd.
