Received an upgraded GPU but faced some problems—here are some suggestions.
System Specifications: The Asrock Phantom Gaming B550 mini-ITX motherboard paired with Corsair SF750 power supply, equipped with a Ryzen 9 3900x processor, 16GB of DDR4 RAM, and the original EVGA 2080S graphics card. The upgrade tried included switching to an ASUS ROG STRIX 3070TI, but faced several challenges. The case used was the Lian Li Q58.
I managed to install the 3070TI into the compact case, though during the initial setup I misaligned it against the riser cable. My first try was unsuccessful, and concerns arose about mispositioning the riser or damaging the PCIe x16 slot or the GPU's connector. After a thorough disassembly to verify everything worked, the system displayed a splash screen but froze and eventually went dark. I couldn't get it to load properly or show a complete image.
With limited time before work, I shared this experience to gather troubleshooting advice. This is my girlfriend's machine, so I plan to test the 3070TI on her rig once I have more time. I also want to verify the 2080S for any compatibility issues, as it was the original component and functioned well before my upgrade attempt. My hope is that it finally showed the splash screen after a couple of minutes of booting.
The GPU and motherboard lights are on, along with fan operation. I'm connecting the card via DP on an Acer 27-inch monitor. These moments remind me how much I wish this rig had built-in graphics. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
I understand this didn't receive much support, but I'm prepared for the possibility that someone else might face the same problem. I've identified the problem as likely being related to the PCIE 3.0 riser cable included with my Lian Li Q58 model. When I connected the 3070TI directly to the motherboard, the system started up without any issues. Fortunately, I suspected this could be the root cause and ordered a 200mm PCIE 4.0 riser in the hope it would resolve the issue. If that doesn't work, I may need to explore alternative riser cables or different motherboards. Meanwhile, I've seen reviews suggesting a BIOS update or manually setting the PCIE to 3.0 might help for users with the 3.0 riser in the Q58 or NZXT H1 models.
