Essentially a beginner here regarding PC construction. Observing Linus and other YouTube tutorials has been very useful. I'm attempting to choose 2*8 GB 3200Mhz CLI16 RAM for the ASUS TUF B450M-PLUS GAMING motherboard. The link suggests this model supports up to 2666Mhz according to its specifications. Would this imply I should search for a motherboard that can handle frequencies higher than 3200Mhz?

Max memory speed is limited by XMP/DOCP settings. Once the motherboard arrives, turn on BIOS and activate XMP to let RAM operate at its designed rate.

When the board partner indicates its maximum or marks an OC, it suggests it’s unlikely to succeed. The same applies to the CPU—though motherboards are less likely to exceed rated speeds, CPUs generally follow manufacturer recommendations closely.

3200MHz should generally function well, but performance drops noticeably after that point. It's around 90% effective, with a slight decrease per additional MHz. Most likely, the motherboard speed will be the main constraint.
