Rebuilding RAM for Lenovo IdeaPad S340-15API?
Hi guys,
I’m trying to upgrade the RAM in my 5-6 year old laptop. The scan from Corsair says I have two slots with 4GB sticks, one removable and one fixed. I’m wondering:
1) If the scanner shows a max of 20GB, can I still get up to 16GB?
2) The compatibility check suggests DDR4 2400-3200 SODIMM. Does choosing 3200 really matter if it’s more than 2400, or is the main thing how many GB I have?
You have 4gb in a non-removable slot.
Any of the three recommended sizes would work, based on your desired total capacity.
The first 8gb will run in dual channel mode while the remaining in single channel.
Memory will function at the slower RAM speed.
3200 will reduce speed to the original 2667.
Using a 2400 speed add will keep the original at 2400.
Speed differences are minor, except possibly for integrated graphics performance.
A 16gb stick would be ideal.
Thank you for your reply man. Based on the important scan result of at least 2666, it seems more suitable to purchase a 16gb 2666.
Since the current setup is running at 2666, any additional capability needing 3200 would likely require a similar 2666 configuration. It's somewhat inefficient technically, but the cost gap between 3200 and 2666 isn't significant.
