Do you have another computer in the house that can be linked to the router via cable? A laptop works too. You can perform speed tests between the devices to determine if the problem lies with the network or internet connection. I think the Windows Store contains the server, and you can reach it using an IP:port from another system for testing. It doesn’t matter which machine hosts the server or whether one is 1 Gbps—just ensure enough bandwidth since 500 Mbps isn’t a typical standard.

unfortunately i don't have that setup. my eero is connected directly to the ONT, and when my phone connects, I get about 1.7g. i've tried connecting the PC straight to the ONT too, but only around 700mbps. i've used two different NIC cards and two Ethernet cables; it seems like the issue might be with a setting on the PC. i've ruled out most other possibilities.

Not completely accurate. When saving files to your computer, your connection speed is what restricts how quickly data moves to the drive. (provided the drive isn't faster than your internet.) Speed checks such as Ookla should handle this in memory or cache, meaning you won’t be limited by hard drive performance. (unless I’m wrong and they actually write to the disk—please confirm or challenge this?)
