Hi everyone, I'm trying to set up my NAS server with Windows Server 2012 instead of OpenMediaVault. My idea is to run Windows Server directly, host OpenMediaVault inside a VM, and add a router distribution as well. I have two NICs, each with one port, but I'm wondering if I need more ports. I also have a switch that could serve as the router distribution. The system specs are a Pentium G3258 with an ASUS H81M-K motherboard and five HDDs.

Use two NICs—one for the physical server and one for virtual machines. Set up Server 2012, add Hyper-V as a role, then install OpenMediaVault and Router Distro as virtual machines. Alternatively, you can back up OpenMediaVault, restore it to a VM, though I’m not familiar with the process.
