Rant about Windows updates
My experience spans four years on Linux, using various distros and hardware without encountering any update issues.
Recent updates on both platforms required deleting a .dll file before successfully removing Chrome and reinstalling it. All Asus programs were removed and reinstalled without issues. On the laptop, desktop icons shifted each time Windows restarted; I tried various solutions online but gave up, opting for a clean install. My system remains free of bloatware, viruses, or excessive files—games and Premiere CC are the only exclusives on the desktop.
Ubuntu 12.04, 16.04, Mint 14+, Xubuntu 12.04, 15.10, Debian 17, BackTrack 5, Kali Linux, MacPup 550 were installed on various systems including Alienware Alpha R1 i3-4130T with an A10-6800K/Radeon HD 7750 and MSI FM2 board 5930K/X99 Gaming Pro Carbon. The setup included a 470 + 1070 motherboard, along with an older Acer Aspire running Windows 7 and 8.1. Additionally, a Dell Inspiron from Vista era was present, equipped with an AMD Athlon II or Turion II processor, supporting Debian via Parallels on macOS, Ubuntu, and Mint in a Hyper-V environment.
It seems there’s a lot of confusion here. I’m not sure what you’re asking about—could you clarify? You mentioned a laptop model and wondered about its make/model, as well as concerns about software issues across different distributions. Let me know how I can help!
All operating systems and kernel releases. Unlike Windows, updating any OS from an ISO always succeeds. Since I lack the time to troubleshoot each update, my devices rarely run Linux. The ones that do remain on the original version until I upgrade to the supported long-term support release.
The latest update appears to be the most suitable option; I'll check for any possible issues.
The problem arises during the actual installation of updates. It leads to a messy outcome that starts up once, stops working, and then traps me in an endless cycle requiring removal of the drive and a new operating system.
