Hello, everyone. I’m trying to figure out why my computer keeps restarting unexpectedly. It doesn’t crash, just shuts down on its own—whether I’m playing games, idle, running tests, or watching videos. No minidump files appear either. I was able to prevent the issue from happening, but the solution feels unclear.

It seems to work fine when I set my GPU power limit to 80% in MSI Afterburner. The system runs smoothly. Anything above that causes random restarts. I suspect a power-related problem, though I’m not sure. I’ve replaced my PSU with a ROG Thor 1200W and used two 8-pin cables instead of a branched one. The PSU has hybrid fan control; keeping it on reduces but doesn’t stop the restarts.

I also noticed the backlight on my case lights up when using a tester screwdriver. The PSU housing doesn’t illuminate the tool, nor do other metal panels. That detail is odd, but I wanted to mention it.

Other specs: CPU – Ryzen 9 5950X (default), RAM – G.SKILL Trident Z RGB at 3600MHz CL14, GPU – Palit RTX 3080 Ti Gaming Pro at 80% power limit, motherboard ASUS Crosshair VIII Dark Hero, PSU Asus ROG Thor 1200W, case Thermaltake Armor Revo Snow Edition. Storage includes multiple NVMe drives and a soundcard. OS is Windows 10 Pro, installed in 2015 after upgrading from Windows 7. There have been several hardware changes over the years.

It turns out the ROG Thor 1200W has too much sensitivity on its 12V line, leading to frequent restarts. After that, I upgraded to a different setup and ended up using the Thermaltake 1200W GF3. It's surprising since most people wouldn't think a Seasonic PSU could beat a Thermaltake one.
