I'm trying to figure out what's going on with my PC. It keeps rebooting randomly, and during these restarts the BIOS sometimes shows the CPU as overheating even though the temperatures are normal—peak is 90°C, average around 77°C, and Ryzen Master shows 64°C. Everything else on the motherboard seems fine. Sometimes on reboot it doesn't display any warnings at all, making it very unpredictable. All BIOS settings are the same except fan speeds and RAM frequency. Anyone have any ideas about this issue? Thanks in advance.

Did you introduce any updated programs or changes to the system since the problem began?

perform stress tests on the CPU and monitor temperatures using tools like cinebench or similar. Determine the motherboard model. Ensure the BIOS is up to date.

Did you verify all drivers in Device Manager for any yellow warnings? Have you executed the Windows Memory Diagnostic to assess your RAM? When was the most recent installation of Windows?

I messed up by not including the motherboard, which was necessary for running. The MSI B550-A PRO BIOS was last updated roughly three months ago, probably. I plan to run Cinebench, though the previous test pushed temperatures up to a steady 90°C (no changes made to the system afterward).

I have included several instances, though for clarity this problem has been happening intermittently for a few months (roughly 3-4), although it has grown more frequent recently. It began with occasional restarts, perhaps once a week or every two weeks, without any overheating alerts—just a reboot. Then in the past month it has become much more frequent, occurring about 2 or 3 times daily, sometimes accompanied by an overheating warning and other times not. After a week passed with no restarts, I made no changes during that time and don’t know why the pattern is so unpredictable.

device manager shows no alerts, all drivers are current as of a few days back. I tested TM5 overnight to verify RAM, found no issues, and ran it again during work hours to confirm stability after the PC shut down three hours into the first test (lol). The last Windows update was around 1-2 years ago.

Did you verify the condition of all your drives?

ST1000DM003-1ER162 1TB, Crucial MX500 500GB, WD_BLACK SN850X 1TB.
I noticed hwinfo showing the drive with Windows installed as having 0% remaining lifespan, but now it doesn’t appear on my system. Interestingly, the total host reads are 23GB and writes are 171219GB, while other drives seem fine—this is the only unusual reading.

ran cinebench with CPU at steady 90 degrees C, viewing results in hwinfo and ryzen master. The system restarted roughly one minute after, triggering a temperature alert. Restarted again, reopened cinebench, obtained identical readings, maintaining an average frequency of 4.3 to 4.4, and successfully finished the full 10-minute test under load without needing a reboot.
