Random black screen on PC after restart is occurring. Unclear what's wrong. Need assistance.
Hey, over roughly six months now I've experienced random crashes where my PC shuts down unexpectedly, followed by a reboot. It used to be rare but lately it's happening more often and I'm concerned about the condition of my old hard drive. I'm a bit anxious typing this right now because I'm worried it might fail when I need it most. I've tried to pinpoint the issue, reinstalling and updating drivers, updating BIOS, running memory checks, stress testing both automatic and manual modes. All thermal readings look normal, and I think my system has enough power for its workload—no crashes under full load. Regarding my build: I have a GIGABYTE Z390 Gaming X with an i9-9900k, an AIO cooler, GTX 1070, 2x 16GB DDR4, a seasonic PSU (around seven years old), a 1TB NVMe drive with three HDDs (one USB-powered), plus multiple USB devices like audio interfaces and MPC software. Despite these upgrades, the problem keeps occurring. I've checked my PSU for insufficient power, but it seems to be functioning well. My performance is solid under heavy use—CPU stays at 100% with temps maxing out around 100°C, GPU also hits full capacity. I searched in the BIOS for possible fixes, suspecting maybe the PSU isn't delivering enough wattage, but that doesn't match since my system runs fine then. I thought the issue might be due to low load on the PSU, so I tried power loading without success. Notably, the crashes are more common with my second monitor (a TV) connected, especially when rendering anime via MadVR or when switching to fullscreen. They rarely happen during gaming. I've also switched to Windows 11, but it happened before too. I'm starting to think there could be a motherboard issue—remember about a year ago I heard a capacitor hiss on my motherboard, which used to bother me, though it's no longer audible. Any advice would be really appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to read.
