4x8 performs worse than 2x16 on the IMC, and using 3000MHz RAM won’t typically cause issues with a Ryzen 5 1600 because you’re having four modules instead of two.

If you have a third or fourth generation Ryzen, support beyond 3200mhz isn't assured—overclocking the memory controller is likely, and that's why the 1600 may not perform well above 2667mhz.

You don’t require a new board for Ryzen 5000 series chips. Your existing DDR4 motherboards should work with them.
