It depends on the RAM, not the CPU. There are numerous DRAM timing calculators that provide a starting point; adjust those values gradually until the system becomes unstable.

I know that the sweet spot for zen 2 is about 3600MHZ with CAS 18, but with so much hype about AMD over the last several months I have not kept up to date with intel.

Typically, the main issue you'll face is with the RAM, although Intel CPUs might have scheduler constraints (as far as I understand). It really depends on the quality of the RAM you choose. You should be able to use a 3600mhz CL16 speed with any good RAM module. Even 3933 should work, though performance will gradually decrease. Latency matters more than raw speed.

A 3600 cl16 or a 3200 cl16/14 setup should suffice. If you're focusing on manual overclocking, the best approach is to experiment.

Regarding Ryzen, I prefer not to adjust settings for a steady clock. Just turn on XMP and settle for something decent. Appreciate it!

There isn't a perfect balance on Intel chips, but speed still offers small advantages. I'd choose the most affordable and widely available option.

AMD relies a lot on low latency. Even Intel prioritizes it over raw speed. Sure, a 3600 CL16 is quicker than a 2933 CL14, but the idea remains clear. Purchasing a 4200 CL22 doesn't make sense.
