ram speed
Hello, I’m looking to replace my RAM because the current one is no longer available and I don’t want to buy something used. The new options range from 3200 to 3600 MHz, but my CPU only supports up to 2933MHz. Will this affect performance or should I stick with the rated speed? There doesn’t seem to be any drawbacks to that setup, but I’d like some confirmation before proceeding.
What processor are you using? It seems like a 10th generation i7 or i9. If your board allows memory overclocking, you should easily reach speeds above 3600MHz, though that's uncertain. In any case, opt for the quicker configuration. You can always lower it to 2933 if needed (unlikely). My setup, for instance, uses a memory kit rated at 4400MHz but operates at 3800MHz.
Adjust RAM frequency down and allow the motherboard to auto-set CPU and board timings. For lower speeds, 3600 and below can be manageable. Available RAM options include various capacities; if you have a slow 16GB 2x8 kit, most systems will easily reach 3200, making 3000 reliable except for very outdated hardware.
