Hello, I'm trying to figure out why my laptop seems to have only 4GB of RAM available even though I've installed two identical 4GB sticks in the two slots. The Task Manager and CPU-Z both display only 4GB for one slot, and both RAM sticks appear to be in good condition. It also shows a single channel on CPU-Z, which I think should only work if the sticks are identical. I've read some forum discussions about this issue, but I'm not sure if I missed something. I was worried about damaging the sticks by forcing them in, so I gently pushed one further and it now works. Thank you for your help!

Have you tested another slot already?

Test one stick at a time to check compatibility with each. (Possible issue with a single stick) Then, search for the laptop model to check its RAM restrictions.

Yes, I attempted to change the installation sequence of the sticks, but the issue continues.

Apologies for the confusion, I didn't catch "Laptop." Follow @tkitch's advice, try the new stick separately, unless your laptop had a soldered RAM.

The maker displays the same manual as the customer, but it doesn’t mention RAM limits. I attempted to start the laptop using only one stick per slot, and it worked on one but failed on the other. The second slot isn’t functioning with either stick. What should I do next?

If the second position doesn't accept either stick, and both sticks function in the first slot, it's likely a faulty RAM slot with limited options.

Sorry, I was joking around. I didn't fully push either stick into the second slot because I was worried it would break. I tried a bit more force and now it works. Thanks for the help, and have a great day!
