In theory, the farthest slot or the second slot near the CPU socket would be optimal. However, in real-world performance it doesn’t matter much. The motherboard might not boot if you don’t connect the stick to those two slots, or it could display a warning. The manual should highlight this issue.

Found on page 10 of the manual. https://download.gigabyte.com/FileList/M...ng-x_e.pdf Note: For best performance, use DDR4_A2 and DDR4_B2 (the second and furthest from the socket). In single-channel mode, either stick can be used—first channel is A, second is B.
