RAM Overclocking Guidance
RAM Overclocking Guidance
Hello, friends. I’m just starting out in this world of high-performance builds. Last year I finally put together my ideal machine using these details:
- Board: MSI Megazoom G790 Godlike EATX
- RAM: TEAMGROUP T-Force Delta RGB DDR5 32GB (2x16GB) at 7800MHz
- Motherboard: 600/700 series with XMP 3.0 ready, white color
- CPU: Intel i9 13900K
- Power supply: 1300W
- GPU: RTX 4090
My RAM is rated for up to 7800 MT/s, but it only hits 4000 MHz. When I try to enable XMP, the PC crashes with a blue screen every time. Only when I turn off XMP does it boot fine—but it feels like I’m losing valuable performance potential.
I’ve experimented before, adjusting voltages in BIOS, but nothing stuck. Now I’m seeking advice on safely boosting my RAM and getting the most out of this setup. Thanks for your help!
The official documentation for 13th generation CPUs specifies 4400 with 2DPC, which likely explains why your board runs at very low speeds. MSI’s specifications indicate support for 6400 using four single-rank modules; if your processor can be overclocked to that level, it might be the optimal goal. I recommend beginning with 5200 and, once it boots, perform stability tests before progressing.
Thank you for your feedback. Here are the updates you've provided. I'm still working through those adjustments to find the best fit. Please let me know if you need further clarification. 4.jpeg
Yeah, your setup got messed up, but swapping the RAM is pretty straightforward and relatively inexpensive (considering resale value). Try replacing it with a 2x32 kit and check out r/overclocking for help—it's a dedicated community for overclockers. Discord could also assist, though most members are more focused on DDR5 and DDR3 discussions.
