Hello! I just finished my latest build over the weekend. Except for a small mistake (the PSU cable wasn’t plugged in right), everything ran perfectly. Before installing the operating system, I updated the BIOS and adjusted the EXPO profile, changing the RAM speed from 4800 to 6000. After starting Windows, I noticed random power cycling around the halfway point. I tried reinstalling a few times but kept getting the same issue, so I thought it might be the RAM being unstable. I then lowered the speed back to 5200, which resolved the problem. Now that all updates are complete, benchmarks show solid performance and everything is green. I’m considering going back to tweak the RAM speed further, but since this is my first overclocking attempt, I’m unsure what’s most important. Reading online suggests there are many settings to adjust—voltage, timings, voltage steps, etc.—and sometimes just clicking EXPO and setting a number works. What should I focus on? Any tips would be greatly appreciated so I don’t just randomly change things. Cheers!

Relevant Specs:
- PSU: MSI MPG A1000G
- RAM: G.Skill Flare X5 DDR5-6000, 32GB, CL30, Dual Channel (2 units)
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
- OS: Windows 11

Preferably you can simply select EXPO and let the system handle it, but because XMP/EXPO act as an overclocking method, a perfect success isn't guaranteed. Still, I haven’t noticed anyone claiming a 7800X3D can’t reach 6000. These chips are designed to cap around 6400–6600 without altering the settings. Which slots are you using?

Ram appears in 2/4, which is a bit funny since when I checked the EXPO profiles it seemed like I had just one option, and the other one wasn’t available at all. Edit: After thinking, it looks like there’s only profile 1 to pick from :l Edited September 5, 2024 by Angeluni
