RAM only overclocking
RAM only overclocking
Hi, I recently purchased a Ryzen 3000 CPU and am looking to overclock my important bare RAM. I don’t want to affect any other components like the CPU or motherboard, just the RAM itself. Could someone assist me with this process? I’d appreciate using XMP if possible. Thanks in advance.
Your RAM's top speed is 2666, which matches the standard base clock for your motherboard, so you probably don't need to adjust D.O.C.P (Asus's XMP equivalent) to enable it. If necessary, it should appear in the BIOS under Ai Overclock Tuner, set to D.O.C.P, and then select the RAM speed from the dropdown menu. The AI Overclock Tuner should allow it to run at 2666, though we'll confirm.
Ryzen 3900x
Asus Strix x570-e
Crucial CT8G4DFS8266 2x8 Gb 2666MHz
MSI 5700XT Evoke
500 Gb Samsung EVO
Thermaltake 700W 80+ white
The maximum speed of your RAM is 2666, which matches the standard base clock for your motherboard, so you probably don't need to adjust D.O.C.P (Asus's XMP equivalent) to activate it. If necessary, it should appear in the BIOS under Ai Overclock Tuner, set to D.O.C.P, and then select the RAM speed from the dropdown menu below. The AI Overclock Tuner in auto mode should enable the RAM to run at 2666 as well, so we'll check that.
If your RAM was purchased faster than 2666, then XMP/D.O.C.P is likely used to overclock it beyond the base clock and match the memory's XMP profile. It seems your RAM might not have an XMP profile, which could be incorrect. You can verify this in a tool like CPUz by checking the SPD tab—specifically, the fourth column in the Timings Table should show an embedded XMP profile for this RAM. If the read shows XMP-2666, then D.O.C.P must be enabled.
