Hello, I'm working with an older PC and want to upgrade its RAM. Currently, it has 16GB (2x8GB) CMK16GX4M2B3000C15B V5.39. I'm considering another pair of 16GB (2x8GB) but have found some with matching serial numbers and timings. The version numbers are either V5.30 or V5.32. Would this fit in my system? a few RAM modules might fit certain setups... if it's a dual-channel configuration, you'll likely need two identical sticks; otherwise, with four slots, the other two can vary. I discovered this while purchasing domplats DDR3...
They often follow the advice not to mix RAM and treat it as an absolute rule... It seems odd. It’s just a guideline, you’re free to deviate. Since the RAM you have matches the same timings and sub-timings, only variations in revisions, the chances of problems or performance drops are low. The risk is there, but it’s small. You’re safe. There’s no compelling reason to discard the high-quality RAM you own for extra cost. Plus, getting a good deal on used RAM from sites like eBay, Craigslist, or Facebook can be very affordable. Used RAM isn’t very liquid and might take a long time to sell at fair prices. It’s a hassle compared to the tiny chance that mixed RAM won’t work properly—something you could easily avoid if you just return it without stress.
It varies by market. I sold a 2666 2x4 kit for about 70% of its original value in just two weeks.
