RAM issues
Board details: MSI X570s Carbon Max with 4x16GB Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro RAM. CPU is Ryzen 7 5800X3D. This motherboard has been in use since my last graphics issue was resolved. All components from the previous setup still functioned properly. The new board doesn’t support RAM in both A and B channels, no matter the configuration—2 channels won’t work either. During testing with DIMMA2, three out of four sticks worked, one failed for an unknown reason and is being set aside temporarily. System operates normally when both A channel slots are filled. Debug code on the board shows 0d, and the ezdebug light confirms CPU activity. This behavior is consistent whether using dual channels or a single stick acting unexpectedly.
I think the frequencies are around 3600 or 3200 MHz. On Ryzen it might be challenging to run four sticks at those speeds, but since you can't even use two sticks in dual-channel mode, the issue could be with the motherboard or CPU.
3200 but I haven’t even updated them yet, so they’re still running at the default for DDR4 (I don’t recall the exact frequency off the top of my head). They used to run at 3200 on another board. The CPU hasn’t changed. I think it might be related to the board itself—I’m just hoping someone here can help without me having to dismantle everything again, lol.
Have you tested using the sticks only in channel B? If it causes issues, the issue is probably with the socket/board or CPU. Your board can handle two sticks in one channel, but not two in separate channels. It’s likely your motherboard has a problem in the socket, though it could also be a CPU concern. Also, you can use DDR4 with four sticks on Ryzen 3000/5000 series, but reliability drops above 3200. You should be able to run at JADAC speed or 3200, which shouldn’t affect your setup since you’re using a 5800X3D.
I removed the CPU and verified the pins. Everything appears fine. I cleaned the thermal paste, reinserted it, and reapplied. Now I'm seeing the boot code 02. Turning off power, restarting, and it boots correctly. Cleaning each RAM stick—up to three sticks—and everything works now. I plan to test the fourth stick that caused issues earlier. It's unclear what initially affected the CPU. The cooler was just slightly tight, and everything looked normal during the first installation. But it seems resolved. Updated: after several attempts, all four sticks worked successfully. Windows is displaying 64GB.
