Hey there, I understand you've been sharing updates about your mom's laptop, and it feels like it might make me seem uninterested. I appreciate your trust in this forum from the start, and I really enjoy it. The main thing is that my mom decided we should upgrade the RAM, so we did—we got an DDR4 stick. But when I tried to install it, it kept rejecting it, which caused the caps lock to blink. I checked for power issues, but it worked when I put the original stick back in. That’s confusing.

Focus on CPU, motherboard, and RAM topics. Also, please share an image comparing the old and new RAM sticks with labels.

Hello! I noticed we're missing the memory topic details. Could you share both front and back images so I can assist further? The blue image is the original.

They appear quite similar, which is why I thought there might be a difference in specifications. They both seem to offer 8GB, 1x8, DDR4 2400 and PC4. The question is why switch from one 8GB model to another when they’re so alike? From the images it looks like a HP laptop—do you have a specific model in mind?

This device features two RAM ports, and since this portable machine is quite modern, I considered upgrading it to 16GB of memory. Such an upgrade isn't commonly found in laptops. The model is an HP Pavilion x360 Convertible 15-cr0095nr.

Even with identical specifications, the RAM modules can sometimes fail to install. Using two of the same PNY model or two of the blue variant would likely resolve the issue. Each set has a unique identification, which can confuse the laptop's BIOS settings.

The likelihood of a new pny stick functioning depends on various factors such as quality and usage conditions.

I’m mainly worried about what happens when I simply insert the pny stick into the device, using the original from the computer, and then power it on—it causes a blinking caps lock light.

It's worth checking if it functions in both slots. If it doesn't, it might be an issue with my previous verification statement or a broken component.

You're unsure whether the issue is a verification error or a faulty stick. Since you lack a DDR4 laptop, it might be harder to diagnose—check for error messages, test with another system, or consult support resources.
