So when I first set up my budget PC about six months ago, everything functioned well except for a GPU or its port which might have been faulty. Over the past few months, performance has dropped noticeably. Programs take longer to launch, storage space has decreased from 50+ GB to around 30-40 GB, Chrome becomes sluggish, and recording sessions on Windows are losing quality. Recently, I experienced a blue screen during a game, my computer froze while downloading, and two Chrome tabs crashed simultaneously. My RAM usage is now near full at startup, running at 1067 MHz. After some troubleshooting, I found a few settings changed in BIOS that seemed to help, like enabling the XMP 2.0 profile and adjusting the memory speed to match what it claimed. The voltage was also tweaked from 1.2V to 1.35V. However, when I tried to boot up again, RAM usage dropped back to 30%, but the system still ran at full speed. Placing a hand near the RAM didn’t cause any overheating, suggesting everything is okay. Still, I’m hesitant about handing this PC to someone else after completing my next build, given these ongoing issues.

Restart your BIOS and erase the CMOS. After that, reinstall the XMP settings and avoid adjusting any other parameters in the BIOS. Remember to preserve the changes you make before exiting.

Ignoring the CMOS won’t help. Refreshing the BIOS is the better option.

I'll examine that next. Just finished the task and now I have an additional 1GB of committed memory.

After some concern, I finally updated to what was available since my only CPU is a Pinnacle Ridge. I couldn’t install the latest updates, but I moved from 1.6 to 3.5. When I reset and cleared CMOS before the BIOS update, turning on a profile showed normal 35% RAM usage at startup. After the BIOS fix, it still says 2133MHz, but I can’t see the MHz value in my RAM list to confirm. It’s unclear if the problem is resolved. I’ll need to check if performance improves.

It seems you're trying to figure out why your system runs at 1067MHz instead of the expected 2133MHz. It might be an issue with your RAM or a BIOS setting, or possibly a hardware problem. Check if other components match the specifications.
