I recently acquired an AIO for my R7 2700x after removing my original Wraith prism cooler. Upon trying to remove it, I found it wouldn't come out evenly, even though the latches were off. The thermal paste seemed to have fused together, causing the CPU and cooler to stick together. I attempted to separate them carefully, bending three pins, but managed to straighten them. After removal, the system started up again, though I discovered my RAM was only operating at 2133 MHz. I've tried D.O.C.P(X.M.P.) and manually overclocking the RAM, but it either triggers a BSOD or fails to post. With D.O.C.P. enabled, it consistently runs at 2133 MHz. Could this be related to the bent pins? Should I consider replacing the CPU? Is there any indication that the motherboard might be faulty?
P.S: The RAM performed perfectly at 3200 MHz before the cooler installation.
IMPORTANT NOTE: I checked the RAM slots, and A1 and B1 are not booting with D.O.C.P., while A2 and B2 do. The system boots at 2133 MHz on those ports. Also, I updated the BIOS and installed the newest chipset drivers a day prior.
Sorry to say but because three pins were bent, this CPU is essentially a ticking deformer. It happened to me eight years ago; I had an AMD FX-8350 with just two pins misaligned and then I overclocked it. The next day my PC wouldn’t even start up. Looking at the pins, they had fallen off because of excessive heat. Although my RAM was technically running at its normal speed, it’s odd that yours behaved like that. Now I have 128 GB of DDR5 5200MHz but can only reach 4K due to heat dissipation issues. Otherwise, it would cause a BSOD. These situations occur sometimes, and we often have no control over what our hardware does unless you’re an expert. Also, power is needed to maintain those frequencies and a high rate—so think about getting another CPU or a warranty.
I've already been researching newer CPUs, thinking that might be the problem. I wanted to check what others are saying so I don't waste my money because of my mistakes, haha.
I've removed a CPU from the motherboard socket occasionally, still keeping it connected to the heatsink. Now I power up the computer briefly to heat up the TIM or use a hairdryer, then gently move the heatsink back and forth until it releases.
The AMD spec sheet for the 2700X states it only allows overclocking up to DDR4-2933, so attempting XMP 3200 might be too ambitious.
I recently installed 3000MT/s RAM on a 2600X system (same 2933 MT/s CPU limit), but the system wouldn't boot unless I manually adjusted the CL (CAS) timings from CL16 to CL18.
That adjustment was enough to make the system stable.
With faster 3200MT/s RAM, you may need to adjust the CL timing by another clock cycle.
This conclusion is entirely your choice. I’d really suggest keeping the game going since it’s still functioning.
