Ram help
I recently purchased a 16GB RAM module with 2400MHz speed and a single stick. After installing it in my PC, I noticed the system began emitting three short beeps followed by one long beep. I attempted to clean the RAM pins and cleaned the inside of the slot, but the issue persisted. My machine is a Lenovo ThinkCentre M710E, which is no longer supported. Assistance needed?
It might be a faulty stick or the motherboard isn't compatible with RAM. I'd check the QVL, but it seems they likely don't have it in stock anymore. Do you have another DDR4 stick for testing? Or would you consider using a different PC to try it out? Also, what was the speed of the old stick? If you didn’t disconnect the power cable, there could still be power on the board and risk damaging the new one.
I don’t have a spare stick or motherboard right now—it’s still 2400MHz like before. If something gets shorted, would it be safe to replace it?
Use a different stick of identical type and speed. If it doesn’t work, install the new one and try a CMOS reset. If that fails, test it on another computer—it’s your best next move. If it remains nonfunctional and appears damaged, it’s likely fried and unusable, probably not repairable. Verifying its condition is crucial.
With the stick set up, the PC won’t start, even when using the old stick in the first slot. Or perhaps I thought I was doing it right, but honestly, I’m just starting out and my friend has been super helpful with everything I need to understand.
It seems like the issue might be with the stick itself. I’m recommending trying it in another system to see if the problem persists. If it continues to fail, you’ll likely have to return it, assuming the fault wasn’t caused by your installation. There’s no solution to fix it if the stick is defective.
