RAM compatibility
Hello, I'm working on increasing my system's RAM but haven't reached the ideal configuration yet. CPU model: FX-8350, 4GHz; RAM currently: 2x8GB HyperX @1866Mhz; GPU: MSI 1050 Ti; Boards: MSI 970 Gaming. I'm planning to install two more modules: one 8GB HyperX @1866Mhz and another 4GB HyperX @1866Mhz. When the system starts up, it reports 28GB total, but only 12GB is accessible while 16GB remains reserved. Any suggestions?
I’m assuming you got that info from Windows. If it’s a new or second-hand setup, run MemTest one at a time to check functionality. If you don’t make it into BIOS with one stick, you’ll know immediately it’s faulty RAM. You might need to boot into Windows with non-functional RAM if it isn’t in the first slot, which is why testing each stick separately is important. Only combine good RAM with the original ones; you may need to tweak timings manually if Windows can’t use it automatically.
