CAS values for a 3200MHz CL22 RAM downclocked to 2666MHz would be CL20, CL19, CL18, CL17.

You can verify it in CPU-Z.

If you're looking for a general guideline, the closest FWL for a 3200CL22 is 2666C18. However, many other factors influence RAM speed and latency.

I haven't purchased it yet, but I'm checking if a 2666MHz CL18 or a 3200MHz CL22 is better. My CPU only handles up to 2666MHz, so I need to understand what happens with a CAS 3200MHz at 22CL.

Thanks for the update. I noticed 2666mhz listed at CL19 on Amazon, so I wondered if it might be downgrading to that version. Why is it showing up as CL18 instead of 19 or 20?

Again, that is purely theoretical using this formula. As i state before, a fuck ton more things affect RAM transfer speed and latency.

Focus on the timing details rather than raw numbers. The performance impact of cl is minimal, so prioritize those subtimings. There should be no justification for 3200c22 if other models like 2666c19/18 or 2400c16 perform better. It’s essentially the same as 3600c18 being quicker than 3200c16.
