RAM at 2133mhz with 7870k and Asus A88x-plus
Hi, I'm sorry about my English, it's not my native language. Now let's talk about the issue. I own the following components: AMD APU 7870K with stock cooler, Asus A88X-PLUS, Gskill Ripjaws F3-17000CL9D-8GBXM (2x4Gb 2133Mhz 1.65v), EVGA 500w (100-W1-0500-KR). I purchased this because I heard the APU 7870K with 2133Mhz RAM performs well, and I don't play much. It's just for casual gaming and work.
The problem is I didn't realize until recently that I need to overclock my CPU in order for the RAM to run at 2133Mhz—it's currently at 1600Mhz. I'd like to reach 2133Mhz to fully utilize my hardware. In my country, these parts are expensive, so I want to get the best performance possible. I have some overclocking experience, but my last setup was an Intel core 2 Duo e6300, so I'm a bit rusty.
I believe the solution is to increase the FSB speed to 2133 and adjust the CPU's multiplier or clock. Am I correct? I don't have funds to upgrade the cooling system, so I'll stick with the stock cooler. Currently, the CPU reaches a maximum temperature of 44°C under full load. I read somewhere that this CPU can go up to 72°C, so it seems possible for RAM to hit 2133Mhz without changing the cooler.
If anyone can help me, I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
Thank you for your reply. I realized I attempted to adjust the RAM's speed to 2133mhz manually via the BIOS, yet it still stayed at 1600mhz. This prompted me to look into possible solutions, such as modifying the CPU's clock or multiplier to boost FSB speed. I'm unsure about the approach but think it could be effective. My uncertainty comes from limited experience in this area.
