Ram and CPU overclocking
Ram and CPU overclocking
Im going to build a pc soon. I will have a i7 7700k and 3000hz ram. I plan on overclocking the system but im getting real confused on how to overclock both CPU and ram. I understand that there is a method for getting the advertised speed of the ram is to use the XMP profile. I have seen threads where people say it does affect cpu clocks and others that say XMP doesn't.
Is it possible to manually OC my CPU while using the XMP profile?
If not, how do i set ram to the advertised frequency and overclock the cpu well? ( I think it involves setting the timings, the voltage, and maybe the frequency, then testing stability, then doing a standard cpu overclock.)
Yes. Enable the XMP profile. Navigate to the bios and adjust the max core multiplier according to your system specifications. It's quite straightforward. If you have an Asus Mobo, I can guide you through the process.
You'll also need to adjust the voltage settings.
I can also suggest ways to optimize your RAM for a higher overclock beyond the 3000 if you're keen.
