Long ago... (2014) I set up Windows 8 on my Mac around mid-2011 with an Ati Radeon HD 4670. Recently, I made a mistake by uninstalling the Windows partition and reinstalling it again—this time using Windows 10. Now I can’t install the GPU driver without the screen going black. The only option seems to be reverting back to Windows 7 or 8 and upgrading later. Any suggestions would be really helpful!

I can't directly change your Windows setup, but I can offer some guidance. Check if your screen is connected via a cable or wirelessly. If it's directly attached, try connecting another monitor to see if the issue persists. For a driver conflict, reinstalling Windows 10 from scratch by formatting the partition might help. Could you let me know your OS version?

I've faced issues with outdated GPUs and drivers on Windows 10 or AMD. It's unclear whether it was the GPU or the driver that caused the problems. I'm trying to get back to Windows 8.1, which ran smoothly before.

Format and reinstall Windows 8.1. Attempt to boot into Safe Mode with networking. Install the graphics driver from there. Experienced similar problems with Windows 10 initially, but a fresh install worked well on a system with HD4870—driver auto-detected.

The display is connected to the PC and I'm using high Sierra. I believe I'll need to switch to Windows 8.

I tried that and it didn’t work. Back then, the first time it happened there was a key step to install the graphics driver—probably involving updating device properties such as hardware ID or compatible ID. I wish I had saved that guide at the time.

I’ve been experimenting with various methods yet still facing issues (even on Windows 8)... I recalled past steps and realized I needed to transfer hardware ID values from the driver installation files.

I wanted to start by confirming your account was created simply to test the waters. Could you give a bit more detail about the issues you're facing with your 4670 on Windows 8 or 10? That way I can provide clearer guidance.
